Come learn the nutritional side of holistic orcharding through the lens of healthy plant metabolism with Michael Phillips. Join us for this introduction to a whole-system based approach for producing nutritionally dense fruits and berries by this nationally recognized guru of holistic orchard management. Workshop & Orchard Tour Outline

The morning session will cover the key role understory management and soil health plays in an organic orchard along with methods to improve soil biology for optimal production. Topics will include insect and disease dynamics from a holistic perspective, natural sprays that boost the plants’ immune response and year-round maintenance to support soil biology and tree growth.

For the afternoon portion of the workshop, Michael will be joined by Wayne Young at Wayne’s High Hill Orchard. They’ll lead participants in a walk through the orchard season. Pruning, branch training, and trunk protection will be woven into our time together. Varietal selection for climate and flavor, and timing methods for harvests that capture sweet treats at their peak will be discussed as well.

The proof of Michael’s and Wayne’s orchard methods is in the final product. We’ve personally tested many of Wayne’s apples and the brix readings are consistently high, some scoring 18 brix. That, my friends, is about as good as it gets!
